Fall Letter from Youth Pastor, Jordan Griesbeck

Parents,

The fall is almost here (!!), so I wanted to write and update you on all that will be going on with All Saints Youth this coming semester.

Grace Anne

First things first: our staff is growing! Many of you know that we've been searching and praying for a Female Youth Director for many months. I'm thrilled to say we've found one in Grace Anne Wood.

Grace Anne was raised in Dallas. She studied art at Texas Woman’s University and then spent four years teaching middle and high school art. Her time spent teaching and shaping young ones has primed her greatly for this role. Grace Anne is warm, kind, creative, and thoughtful. She is married to Leighton and they have a 14-month-old son, Elliot. Their family loves spending time outdoors, and Grace Anne continues to paint in her spare time. I can't wait for you to meet her!

Volunteering

It remains my Number One youth ministry conviction: to cultivate lasting faith in teenagers, we must let them taste and see Christ in older adults. As mentioned before, I'm looking for volunteers at the following levels:

o Level one: come to Youth Group (middle or high school) once a semester, talk to kids, and help lead discussion groups.

o Level two: come to Youth Group (middle or high school) once a month, talk to kids, and help lead discussion groups.

o Level three: lead a small group.

The qualifications remain the same: can you look a kid in the eye and talk to them about their life, what they like to do, what it's like to be them? Email me and let's talk.

Rhythms

1. Sunday School: starts August 19!

Middle School - Sunday School with Grace Anne Wood

High School - Love, Sex, and Becoming Imitators of God in Christ

2. Sunday Nights: Youth Group starts August 26!

This fall, we will be studying Galatians together. I'm entitling the series "Jesus + Nothing = Everything." Though not an original title, it gets to the heart of Galatians as well as Christianity: Jesus alone saves us from sin, death, and sadness; and Jesus alone satisfies our hungry souls.

6:00 - 7:30 PM- Middle School Youth Group

7:30 - 9:00 PM- High School Youth Group

Two notes:

a. Please note that we will not be serving dinner at youth group. Instead, we will have snacks at the beginning of each time slot.

b. Please note that we will not have youth group the first Sunday of every month. *More on this below.*

3. Small Groups:

Happening throughout the week. Email youth@allsaintsaustin.org if you would like your student to get plugged in!

4. Service:

This fall, we are working on a partnership with Mobile Loaves & Fishes / Community First. Stay tuned!

5. Social:

Mark your calendars for our Second Annual Pig Jig! Sunday November 11, 6 PM at the Dwelle’s house (9413 Zyle Rd., Austin TX 78737). Pig Jig is a barbecue-slash-square dance (pig + jig) for 6th-12th graders and their parents. Sign ups coming soon!

Rest Weeks

Living in Austin and raising a family can mean busy nights, lots of time in the car, and feeling like there's never a time when everyone can be together. To that end, we will not have youth group the first Sunday of every month in order to give families time to be together and rest.

It's not just practical, however; it's also theological! As Christians, we rest on Sundays as because "it is finished." Christ's resurrection on the first day of the week means that we may begin our weeks not by stressing about all that is to come, but by resting in his love.

Communication

We will continue to send weekly emails. But in addition, we will also be sending text messages through the Remind App. If you would like to be added to our texting list, please email your name and phone number to youth@allsaintsaustin.org.

Questions?

As always, feel free to email Kinnon (youth@allsaintsaustin.org) with any logistical questions, and email me (jgriesbeck@allsaintsaustin.org) with any pastoral questions.

Fall, here we come!

Blessings,

Jordan
