"Communion"

  • Summer, 2018
  • Featuring Artwork from the All Saints Community

Communion is a sacrament and the culmination of our worship together. As we feed on Christ by faith, in remembrance that He died for us, we’re not only united with Him but also with each other as a true community.

Communion is also:

· A body of Christians having a common faith and discipline

· Intimate fellowship or rapport

· An act or instance of sharing

Taken together, these various meanings of the word almost perfectly describe our 1st Annual Community Art Show: All Saints’ body of creative Christians, out of intimate fellowship and rapport with our community and God, share their creative gifts with us to the glory of our Creator who communes with us in Christ. In these artists’ visual art and poetry, we see a communion of distinct voices and varied subjects, styles, media, patterns, and rhythms that are united not only by common discipline and themes, but, more crucially, by common faith in the One who’s unseen power, light, and life infuses each work with beauty and joy.

As we gather here in community each week and to celebrate around the Lord’s Table each Sunday in worship, our hope is that this show will inspire deeper communion with God and each other and lead us all to share the beauty of community in Christ with the world.

"In Her New Home" - Mary Kat Cone

In her new home

where the windows are open

and the door is open,

my mother’s hair is long

thickly freshly washed

piled & pinned on her head,

several tendrils fall

along her jaw as she works

the work she has always wanted:

kneading the bread

filling the glasses

counting the chairs.

Her pillowy cheeks blushing

and her unlined eyes seeing

What else needs to be done?

She has strong hands to do it.

Her skirt of purple-blue pansies sewn together,

their yellow centers rejoicing,

and out of a pure white blouse

her neck flows like a lily, expectantly.

She’ll take her hair down when we come.

She will open her arms to receive us.

"Along the Way" - Delia Hunt

Through deep and rushing waters

with my Savior

Mid fiery flames He walks

just at my side

I'm welcomed in & counted

in His favor.

Behind me lies the world

and foolish pride.

I feel the Spirit's breath

upon my shoulder,

A caring touch to wipe a tear stained face.

He sheds His Light to make

my faith grow bolder,

Amazing Love to share with me

His Grace.

"Anticipation" - Jerry Hood

Handsome husband at her side,

She stood with a pregnant glow,

While within her the baby grows.

Aunts and uncles in future to be

Wondered what they would see.

The grandparents gathered with glee,

Knowing their grandchild soon would be here.

Nursery with gifts has been filled.

Hospital chosen, arrangements complete.

The doctor has checked and blessed it all.

When she comes, it is nature’s call.
