Betty Marie House
A memorial service for Betty was held Saturday, November 10 at All Saints. Video of the service is posted below as well as the service program and collected stories of Betty from friends and family.
Betty Marie House went to her heavenly Father on November 2, 2018. She peacefully passed away in her Austin home. Betty was born in Austin, Texas on November 10, 1938. Her parents were Chilton Clay House and Lois Gardner House.
Betty attended Austin High School and the University of Texas, graduating in 1961. Later she got her master's degree in Counseling. After working for several years in Houston, San Antonio, Alaska, Colorado, and Dallas she became acquainted with the Evangelical Sisterhood of Mary in Phoenix, Az. The Sisters became her closest friends and family. She lived and worked with them for approximately 10 years, before returning to Austin. She remained in close fellowship with them until her death.
Betty considered her life's work calling to be as a first-grade teacher at Regents School of Austin where she taught from 2000 - 2010. She was beloved by many students and parents. And she was committed to each of her students until they graduated from high school. Many prior first grade students saw her faithful attendance at their Baccalaureate and graduation ceremonies.
Betty was an active member of All Saints Presbyterian Church. She was a friend and mentor to many, who will greatly miss her.
She is predeceased by her parents, her sister, Patty Sue House Taylor, and her nephew James Clay Taylor. She is survived by her nieces Kathy Taylor, Carolyn Goodman, and Laura Whatley, and grand niece and nephews Tyler Goodman, Sydney Goodman and Grayson James Taylor.
Visitation will be Thursday, November 8, 2018 from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish on North Lamar. A memorial service will be held at All Saints Presbyterian Church at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 10, 2018.
