Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved son, Andrew John McCarty on December 27, 2023.
Andrew was born on July 18, 2008, in Austin, Texas. Andrew brought a unique blend of humor, a sense of dedication to the important things in his life, and an unmatched maturity in his relationships with friends, family, and others in his community. His smile, sometimes mischievous, was a special bonus.
A freshman at Westlake High School, Andrew’s dedication to his education was evident by his exceptional grades in multiple honors and Advanced Placement courses. Andrew achieved greatness on the football field where he was a starting player on the Freshman Football Team, as well as on the basketball court as a member of the Freshman Basketball Team. He also traveled the country playing on AAU basketball teams. More importantly, Andrew’s love and demonstrated commitment to his teammates and the brotherhood, both on and off the field/court, far outweighed any personal achievement. In addition to academics and athletics, Andrew held God and service close to his heart. Community service as a mother and son duo with the Young Men’s Service League and growing his relationship with God through the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Young Life, and Austin Ridge Church were also central to Andrew’s life.
In his free time, Andrew could be found woodworking or wakeboarding with his dad and zipping around the neighborhood on his golf cart with friends. A fishing pole and a good country song brought him joy. Without question, the peals of laughter when he was with his friends will be a memory we always hold tight. And at naptime or the end of a day, spooning with Teddy, and his brood of dogs was the perfect way to chill. The camaraderie he enjoyed with his friends was only outweighed by his relationships with his brothers, Jacob and Nicholas. Whether enjoying the outdoors together, goofing around at home, or sharing a serious moment, the bond between the three brothers will remain etched in our hearts forever.
With his quick wit and easy-going nature, Andrew was the friend you always wanted. He had a beautiful gift of making those around him feel like they mattered in that moment. His wisdom and insight exceeded that of a teenager, and his ability to swing between the serious and hilarious was a testament to his ability to understand people. He could love on you one minute (especially his mom) then pull off a joke and tease you in the next. He knew when to buckle down or offer an ear, and when to show up in one of his infamous onesies. Andrew brought amazing value to everyone who knew him with his real talk, loyalty, respect, and laughter. Our world is a better place because God gave us Andrew for fifteen precious years.
Andrew is survived by his parents, Dana and Kim; his brothers, Jacob and Nicholas; his paternal grandparents, Judy McCarty and Vince and Karen McCarty; his maternal grandparents, Georgelyn and Dennis Smith; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins who loved him dearly. Countless friends from all aspects of his life also mourn his death.
